First-Look & Installation: Traxxas TRX-4M 2-Speed Transmission [Video]

By: Tim Gluth

It's time to start shifting gears with the TRX-4M.

I'm not sure what my personal record is for ordering an upgrade or R/C item shortly after reading about it, but this might be a new record. Hours after learning about (and writing about) the Traxxas TRX-4M 2-Speed Transmission (which wasn't available for purchase at the time), I found myself back on traxxas.com. I noticed this item was indeed available for purchase.

A split second later, this upgrade (and one other item) was in my cart, and I was headed to the checkout. Less than a week later, it arrived and found its way into one of my TRX-4M Broncos.

As upgrades go, installing the Traxxas TRX-4M 2-Speed Transmission is one of the most straightforward updates you can make to the TRX-4M. After removing the standard, one-speed transmission, installing a new mounting bracket, and installing the new transmission, you're up and running with a newfound ability for low—and high-speed performance.

While I still need to see how this new setup performs under more extreme conditions, I think this will be a welcome change from the single-speed transmission the TRX-4M is known for.

The Traxxas TRX-4M Two-Speed Transmission is $49.95 and is available through Traxxas and its dealers. Visit traxxas.com to learn more about this TRX-4M upgrade item.
